OPPORTUNITY

Our world is relying on the oceans.
Understanding the sea is critical for a number of reasons, such as for more accurate climate models, improved weather predictions, submarine communications infrastructure, ocean safety, sustainable ocean exploration, and symbiotic human benefit of the ocean.
Today, subsea surveys are massively complex operations requiring large ships, assets, operations, and lots and lots of people.

INSIGHT

What if we could redesign the entire marine survey experience from the ground up and make this previously inaccessible information available to all. Could we rely on modern technology and innovative design to develop a small form factor that operates autonomously relying on high-powered lithium battery power. Could we design a submarine small enough to ship in a case and deploy rapidly anywhere in the world?

DESIGN STRATEGY

Herbst worked with the Bedrock organization to establish a product strategy and execute a design that would be efficient and hydrodynamic, powerful, reliable and of course iconic and beautiful.

Our design provides high-resolution marine surveys, including Geophysical, Hydrographic, and UXO. Our portable AUVs support missions in water depths less than 300m and/or 90km from shore. Our technology allows us to collect seafloor data faster, more efficiently, and in a much more cost effective manner. More importantly, our technology makes ocean mapping safer, with minimal environmental impact, risk of endangered animal takes, and infrastructure damage.

Bedrock is committed to providing the world with a free, publicly available map of our world’s oceans, over 50x more detailed than the current best public map available. Understanding our oceans is critical for more accurate climate models, improved weather predictions, ocean safety, submarine communications infrastructure, and sustainable ocean exploration.
